Salt & Light

Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:13-16 MSG

I love the Message translation on Matthew 5:13-16, it’s straightforward and to the point. Not only does it answer the question of why we are here, but it gives us purpose and clear instruction on whom we should be while we are here on earth. We have been called to go public with our faith! It’s time to get out of our “saltshakers” and go bring out godliness in every place we find ourselves in. Did you know salt makes things taste better by blocking bitterness and enhancing sweetness? It literally suppresses bitter flavors. We should be helping people enhance their spirit man and suppress carnality. The bible is challenging us to be generous with our lives, to shine bright in our actions and in our speech. By doing so, we’ll help others open up with God. Hey Sister, BE GENEROUS! Don’t hold back who God designed you to be. Go and be the light! Don’t hide all that God has done in your life, let your testimony be a tool for God to bring someone unto Him.

If you have come to Christ, you have been placed on a hilltop, on a light stand, to shine. So…Shine! Go bring out the God flavors of this earth by walking in godliness. Be different in how you react, in how you speak, and in how you think. Don’t lose your saltiness or shine by blending in with everyone else or by hiding your faith from others. The Bible says, “when we hide our saltiness and our light, we have lost our usefulness.” Nowadays, everyone stands for what they think is right. We base moral standards on human opinions. Many have become afraid to correct their children and teach them the way of righteousness. They have become crippled with the fear of disagreement. We cannot be afraid to teach our children how to walk in godliness. God is not a secret to be kept. The Bible tells us to stand for godliness, and that may not always match up to what everyone else thinks is ”right”. I dare you to stand for what God stands for.

My dear sisters,

Be bold, Be different, Be salty and Shine bright!

Love Zuleika
