Unconditional Love

Dear Single Mom,

You know that moment where your mind is everywhere and your life feels chaotic, then you look at your little one and it seems as if the world stops. All of sudden nothing else matters and you realize how much you love this little human. You love them so much that you begin to think of ways to become a better mom. We try to become the "perfect mom" when in reality there is no such thing. BUT, we can choose to be a happy, loving mom. It is one thing to tell your child that you love them and a completely different thing to actually show it. Your words need to match your actions because children observe it all.

Let's talk about self-love. Yes, we all know how important it is, but usually, we leave ourselves at the bottom of our priority list. We have to stop! Find time for yourself. Being overwhelmed, stressed and tired affects our parenting. It does not matter how hard we try not to let it. Our well being is just as important as our child. When we love ourselves, I mean really love ourselves....we become a better mom, better yet, a better person overall.

If you're anything like me, you spend your mornings' rushing; rushing to get your child to school on time, rushing to get to work, pouring a pound of sugar in your coffee and it just feels like you never wake up early enough. But I can not stress this enough, ALWAYS show your child you love them. Make it part of the morning routine. My child and I do morning energy hugs. He will come to me and ask if I am ready for energy. Nine times out of ten, I am still half asleep while he is fully dressed and ready to head out. But what can you expect from a child that asked for an alarm clock before he started kindergarten and since then he wakes up on his own and gets dressed on his own? I know, its a blessing. Listen to what your child is trying to tell you without interrupting, as well as, making them feel like their opinions matter. Show and tell them you love them... every single day.

So now let's talk about the best love, the love of God. God’s love is unconditional because there is nothing in this world that we can do to make Him love us more or less. He does not just love us, but He Himself is love. 1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:16, “and so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” Father God, I can not thank you enough. Thank you for being God.

Signed with love, Julie Cruz
